The 80-in-8 format
Eight minutes for 80 questions gives an average budget of six seconds per question. That does not mean every item deserves six seconds. Easy additions should take less; awkward multiplication or a fraction conversion may take more. The real skill is allocating time while protecting accuracy.
Each QuantPit paper uses the same broad category mix and four-stage difficulty ramp, so attempts remain comparable. The numbers are regenerated at the start of every run. You cannot improve by memorizing an answer key; improvement has to come from faster recognition, cleaner arithmetic, and better skipping.
The test includes addition and subtraction, multiplication, exact division, decimals, percentages, and common fraction-to-decimal conversions. Answers are numeric. Commas are accepted, and decimals such as .625 are valid.

How QuantPit scores the test
A correct answer earns one point, a wrong answer loses two points, and a skipped question scores zero. This is intentionally unforgiving: one careless guess erases two correct answers. Your result page therefore separates raw speed from useful speed.

The percentile, when available, describes your position among completed QuantPit attempts under this exact model. It is not an Optiver cutoff, hiring prediction, or official firm statistic. QuantPit waits for at least 100 completed attempts before showing percentiles, then recalculates them from the live anonymous distribution.
A better operating system
Tactics for the eight minutes
1. Skip on recognition, not after a struggle.
Decide within the first second whether you see a clean route. A skip after ten seconds has already cost the time of two easier questions. The skip button is a scoring tool, not an admission of defeat.
2. Separate calculation from keystrokes.
Finish the calculation mentally, hold the answer, then type once. Editing a half-typed guess creates transposition errors and steals attention from the next item.
3. Use stable arithmetic decompositions.
For multiplication, distribute around round anchors: 47 x 8 becomes 40 x 8 plus 7 x 8. For percentages, convert to known fractions when possible: 12.5% is one eighth, 25% is one quarter, and 75% is three quarters.
4. Keep a deliberate final-minute rule.
When the clock turns red, do not change your arithmetic. Tighten the skip threshold. Fatigue and urgency make speculative answers especially expensive under negative marking.
What usually breaks
Common 80-in-8 mistakes
Chasing all 80. The target is the highest score, not the highest question number. A controlled partial paper can outperform a frantic complete paper once wrong-answer penalties are included.
Treating every category equally. Your results table exposes whether a category is slow, inaccurate, or both. Train that bottleneck separately before repeating the full test.
Repeating full tests without review. An eight-minute run measures the system; it does not repair it. Full attempts should be separated by short technique blocks on the weakest category.
Inventing shortcuts under pressure. Use methods you have rehearsed. A clever decomposition that takes three seconds to discover is not a shortcut in a six-second question.
Turn a score into a plan
A rigorous practice loop
Take one baseline attempt while fresh. Record the score, accuracy, pace, and weakest category. Then spend two or three sessions on technique rather than immediately taking another full paper. Retest under the same conditions: desktop keyboard, no calculator, no pauses, and no outside help.
