Strange Dice, Same Sums
Also asked as: Sicherman dice · relabelled dice with the same sums
One of the classic quant interview questions, free to read in full.
Problem
Relabel two six-sided dice with positive integers (repeats allowed, faces need not stay ≤ 6) so that the distribution of the sum of the two dice is exactly that of a standard pair, same probability for every total 2 through 12. Find such a labeling other than the standard one.
Your answer
This one is graded like the real thing: reason it through out loud (structure, key insight, numbers), then reveal and self-grade.
